its a shame that a physicists will even consider making such statements. simple calculation proves this to be other bs. not only gathering that much materials to encapsulate a stare, lets take our sun at 4,370,006 km will be insane, the mass alone added to the poor system where this is being implemented will change the gravitational interactions between bodies of mass enough to possibly make the system gravitationally unstable.

I seriously doubt any advanced civilization capable of building a Dyson Sphere would actually need one, and seems to me that the design for a DS would only be applicable to us humans since it was a human whom imagined it; any other intelligent being would definitely think of another way to harness the power of a star if they ever need it (and why would they?). Searching for these ridiculous things out there is not a very smart exercise and it is certainly just vanity.

Not only would a Dyson sphere need enough material to envelop a star but it needs to move with the star and react to other gravitational influences. Stars don’t just sit stationary.

If we can imagine it well at least thats a start but why consider such a large star like the sun etc, why not start with a small moon along with all the nuclear waste that we have on earth which would give it heat.. Then the Dyson sphere could be built robotically in a 3d fashion. Dyson spheres is an absurd and stupid idea. Even considering a solar system like ours, the whole material wouldn’t be enough to build such a monstrous piece of work. A civilization with such technology would rather emigrate to another solar system, or something else we can’t even imagine.

It kind of shocking the such a revered science educator is spewing such made up nonsense. The vacuum chamber that he is talking about is nowhere near being “much bigger than a football field”. It measures 100 feet in diameter and is 122 feet high. A football field is 300 feet X 160 feet; more than 6 times the surface area of the Space Power Facility vacuum chamber. As far as I know, booster rockets are not tested in the chamber; and why would they be, because they operate in the atmosphere?

The first question is kind of dumb. So some advanced civilization harnessed an asteroid and put DNA on it and sent it at earth?? Hehe NO! And I hate to tell you. When an asteroid burns in the atmosphere exactly HOW are you going to get DNA to survive this? Then the impact causes more heat and fire and destruction. And DNA is gonna pop out and start evolving?? Hehe no! If an advanced alien civilization wanted to seed another planet, they would send a prob or a lander to land and seed the planet somehow. That's about as far fetched as it gets.
